fraction that is a triangle

this task is adapted from one by Tony Gardiner
a rectangle rather than square grid doesn't alter the problem but can make it (seem) a bit different...

similar to the triangles in a square post

all 30ths from 7 to 14 inclusive can be drawn for this grid size

loop cards

the clever design of these sets of 6 'cards' is due to Adrian Pinel at Chichester

this set of resources practices substitution but also with a particular multiplication table

the 'cards' are best cut out
but students could just link the six expressions in a line

the number at the left is the input value
the arrow should connect with an output value

which will be the input value for a next card
and so on...




each student could be asked to work on one set of six cards e.g. set 'c'  - this being a different set to their neighbour

then they could work with their neighbour, e.g. with the two sets 'a' and 'b' etc.
















the next set of loop card resources is intended to practice substitution with simple fractions of an amount

a person weighs 75% of their own weight plus 24 kg
how much do they weigh?

another person weighs 5/6 of their own weight plus 15 kg
how much do they weigh?
