product of three consecutive numbers

interesting to think why it works: diagrammatically, as well as algebraically
[ the algebra is probably simpler with (n - 1) n (n + 1) + n ]

how is a general rule adapted for three numbers that are in (a constant difference) sequence rather than being consecutive?
