linear rules, with contexts

many of these questions are adapted from the WJEC/Eduqas past GCSE papers

why 'm' and 'c' are the letters used (maybe not true but it makes a plausible story)
m = multiplier
c = constant

many thanks to Dan Meyer and also to Andrew Stadel for the insightful idea of using the heights of various numbers of stacking cups as a neat example of a linear relationship

this lesson benefits from the use of actual polystyrene or cardboard cups

these pictures are from Andrew Stadel's work

Fawn Nguyen's account of her lesson sequence on 'stacking cups' is also helpful

what is the height and lip height for these cups?

stacks of two different sized cups are explored in Andrew Stadel's videos
