one approach to area work is to explore and understand how to transform a shape to create another (same area) shape

try to work out how a shape has been changed to make the next-step shape (or any other of the shapes for that matter)

cut and fit - rather than showing that the area is 4

they can create their own transformation spider

possibly starting with a 2 by 4 rectangle
