Dan Meyer suggests task exploring linear regression
involving observing (on film) how long a toaster takes to pop up for various settings
there's a film clip of nine toasters, on settings: 1 to 9
these are short to long cooking times
a timer enables you to see how much time has elapsed, in minutes and seconds etc. (converted to seconds for the graph)
why does a setting 9 take longer?
apart from the first setting, there seems to be a good linear relationship between the setting and time taken to pop-up, as you might expect:
what is an approximation for the straight line graph rule?
since the toaster settings are time related, you might well expect a good correlation between the two variables
