odd one out

This idea was in a chapter of the 1988 NCTM 'Algebra' yearbook, by David J Glatzer.

Students decide which one of the four examples does not belong. They may be able to find a rule which precludes one of the options which is not the same as that intended (which is fine - as long as they can justify it).
