geometric mean

form two equivalent fractions:

work out the geometric mean of the numerators (multiply them and then square root)
over the geometric mean of the denominators
[e.g. starting with 2/3 = 8/12 leads to 4/6]

show (and then prove) that this new fraction is equivalent to the original two
